Unlicensed Fish Seller’s Shop Sealed, Outdated Products Destroyed in Kulgam Market Check

Kulgam, Mar 20, KNT: Acting on public complaints, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) conducted an extensive market inspection in Main Market Kulgam, sealing an unlicensed fish shop and imposing fines on violators.

A special team from the department, led by Food Safety Officer Inderjeet Singh, carried out the surprise inspection to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. During the drive, a shopkeeper was found selling fish without a valid licence, prompting officials to seal the establishment on the spot. Additionally, outdated and substandard products were destroyed during the operation.

Speaking on the occasion, Inderjeet Singh confirmed that the raid was conducted following a complaint regarding unlicensed vendors. “We received a complaint that a shopkeeper was selling fish without a valid licence. Upon verification, it was found that he lacked the necessary documents, and the shop was sealed immediately. These inspections aim to ensure the availability of quality products in the market and curb black marketing and hoarding,” he said.

The official assured that similar drives will continue across the district to keep a check on erring traders. Meanwhile, locals expressed concerns over the presence of more unlicensed shops operating in the market and urged the district administration to conduct market inspections at least twice a month to control overpricing and irregularities.
