Karnah, Mar 3, KNT: The administration in Karnah sprang into action on Tuesday, launching a market inspection drive after reports surfaced about the sale of stale food items, including chicken and pickles, to unsuspecting consumers.
Braving heavy snowfall, Tehsildar Karnah Muhammad Amin led the crackdown, inspecting various shops and hotels, where expired and improperly stored food items were found. The officials destroyed the stale foodstuff on the spot and imposed fines on erring shopkeepers and hoteliers.
The swift action came in response to public outcry over the sale of frozen food items despite the area being without electricity for the past two weeks. Deep freezers, meant to preserve perishable items, had become ineffective, raising concerns about public health.
President Beopar Mandal Karnah, who was also part of the drive, appreciated the administration’s prompt response and urged shopkeepers to maintain hygiene and quality standards. Locals have called for regular market inspections to prevent such incidents in the future. [KNT]
