J&K Government Focuses on Promoting Srinagar’s Religious and Tourist Spots

Srinagar, Mar 13, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting Srinagar’s religious and tourism landmarks to boost visitor footfall and strengthen the local economy.

“Destinations like Dal Lake, Nishat, Shalimar, Chashmashahi, Pari Mahal, shrines, temples, and gurudwaras define Srinagar’s heritage. We are dedicated to enhancing their visibility to attract more tourists,” Abdullah said while addressing the Legislative Assembly.

Responding to a query from legislator Ali Mohammad Sagar on tourism’s economic impact, the Chief Minister highlighted that the sector is a major contributor to J&K’s GDP and employment generation. “Tourism sustains various livelihoods, including hoteliers, tour operators, taxi drivers, and artisans,” he noted.

To diversify the sector, the government is actively promoting Adventure Tourism, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) Tourism, Golf Tourism, Eco-Tourism, Pilgrimage Tourism, and Cultural Heritage Tourism. “Expanding these segments will attract a wider range of visitors,” he added.

As the Minister in charge of Tourism, Abdullah outlined efforts to develop lesser-explored destinations like Gurez, Keran, Bungus, Tosamaidan, Aharbal, Doodhpathri, Machail, Bhaderwah, Sukrala Mata, and Pancheri.
