Gunfight Continues in Kathua’s Sanyal ; Minor Girl Injured in Crossfire

Srinagar, Mar 24, KNT: An intense gunfight erupted between Joint forces and suspected infiltrators in the Sanyal Hiranagar area of Kathua district on Sunday evening, with police sources indicating the presence of at least five militants in the dense forest area.
Defense sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the suspected infiltrators had taken a couple and their minor daughter hostage. However, the husband and wife managed to escape, while the child sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. She was rushed to the hospital, where her condition is reported to be stable.
Security forces have cordoned off the area, and additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to intensify the operation. However, police sources said that the dense forest terrain and the cover of darkness have made the operation extremely challenging.
Gunfire continues to echo through the area as forces attempt to pin down the infiltrators. Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and avoid the conflict zone. [KNT]
