Govt’s Satellite Township Plan Contradicts CM’s Earlier Statement: Para

Srinagar, Mar 8, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday announced its plan to establish satellite townships across the Union Territory to accommodate housing demands and control unplanned urban expansion.

In response to a question by PDP’s Pulwama MLA Waheed-Ur-Rehman Para, the National Conference-led government stated that the Housing Board has identified 1,298.28 kanals (162 acres) of land at nine locations, in addition to 4,200 kanals (525 acres) marked by development authorities in Srinagar and Jammu. Identified sites include Padgampora (Pulwama), Watapora (Bandipora), Bhalwal (Jammu), and Chatterhama (Srinagar).

However, Para questioned the government’s statement, pointing out that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had previously claimed no such proposal was under consideration. Speaking outside the Assembly, Para demanded transparency regarding the intended beneficiaries, citing concerns over demographic shifts and environmental impacts.
