Kupwara, Mar 17, KNT: A woman was diagnosed with a quadruplet pregnancy at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The unusual case was detected by Dr. M. Sayeed, a Sonologist at the hospital, during a routine ultrasound examination.
The expecting mother, who visited the hospital for a regular check-up, was found to be carrying four fetuses. The ultrasound confirmed a gestational age of 18-19 weeks, with an estimated fetal weight of 430 grams per fetus.
Naturally occurring quadruplet pregnancies are highly uncommon, with an estimated occurrence of just 1 in 700,000 pregnancies.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr. M. Farooq Qureshi, who has also been serving as a Gynecologist in the region for years said that despite being located in a remote area, SDH Tangdhar continues to provide quality healthcare services. He said the medical team remains dedicated to ensure the well-being of both the mother and her unborn quadruplets. [KNT]
