DGP Prabhat Vows Stern Action Against Narco-Terrorism, Assures Fairness in Passport Issuance

Srinagar, Mar 21, KNT: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Friday reiterated the resolve of law enforcement agencies to crack down on criminals involved in narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to reporters after addressing a public darbar in South Kashmir, he warned that those engaged in drug-related crimes would face strict action.
When asked about the possibility of increased infiltration due to melting snow, the DGP declined to speculate. “Let’s not make predictions like the meteorological department,” he remarked, sidestepping any forecast on the matter.
DGP Prabhat also spoke about the issue of passport restrictions, stating that individuals who had previously strayed but have genuinely reformed should be considered for concessions. “If a person has had a change of heart and deeds, they should be given a fair chance,” he said.
Addressing concerns over a viral video allegedly showing a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) kicking a woman in Qazigund, the DGP announced that a committee, led by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of South Kashmir, has been set up to investigate. “The findings are expected within ten days. Three days have already passed,” he said, urging people not to give the incident a communal or religious angle.
During the Thana Diwas event in Keller Tehsil of Shopian, locals raised concerns over the frequent halting of fruit-laden trucks at Qazigund, leading to spoilage and financial losses. Farmers and traders highlighted that cold-stored apples have a limited shelf life and unnecessary delays affect their livelihoods. The DGP assured them that the matter would be addressed on priority to prevent further economic distress [KNT]
