Deadline for CCTV Installation in School Buses Extended Till March 31, 2025

Srinagar, Mar 6, KNT: The Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir has extended the deadline for the mandatory installation of CCTV cameras in school buses till March 31, 2025. The decision comes in response to a request from the Forum of Unaided Recognized Institutions (FOURI).

Earlier, schools were directed to complete the installation of CCTV cameras by January 31, 2025. However, considering the request from FOURI, the timeline has now been revised, Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan stated in a notice issued today.

The notice reiterated that all school authorities must ensure compliance with the directive within the extended deadline. It also instructed enforcement agencies to launch special drives from April 1, 2025, to check whether CCTV cameras have been installed in school buses. Schools failing to comply will face action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and related regulations.

The Transport Commissioner has directed enforcement agencies to submit weekly action reports on the implementation of the directive. [KNT]
