New Delhi, Mar 21, KNT: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asserted that youth involvement in militancy has nearly vanished in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he claimed that terrorist glorification, once rampant, has been curbed under the NDA’s rule.
Highlighting the government’s anti-militancy efforts, Shah stated that terror incidents in J&K have drastically declined. He compared figures, noting that while 7,217 incidents occurred between 2004 and 2014, the number dropped to 2,242 in the last decade. He also pointed to a 70% reduction in deaths linked to militancy.
Shah noted a shift in how slain militants are treated, stating that public funeral processions, once common, are now nonexistent. “Earlier, terrorists were glorified, but now they are buried quietly. Their families, who once enjoyed government benefits, have been removed from official posts,” he said.
The Home Minister reiterated that the Modi government has taken a strong stance on security, contrasting it with previous administrations. He said that after the Uri and Pulwama attacks, India responded decisively with surgical and air strikes, ensuring a firm message was sent across the border.
Shah emphasized that the security situation in J&K has improved significantly, allowing normal life to resume. He cited the opening of cinema halls, the successful hosting of a G20 meeting, and the revival of the Muharram procession after decades. He also highlighted government efforts to boost employment, stating that 40,000 jobs have been provided since 2019, along with 1.51 lakh self-employment opportunities.
Shah claimed that an attractive industrial policy has led to Rs 12,000 crore in investments on the ground, with MoUs worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore signed. Defending the abrogation of Article 370, he said it fulfilled the vision of India’s constitutional framers, ensuring “one Prime Minister, one Constitution, and one flag” for the country.
