Magam Residents Block Srinagar-Gulmarg Highway Over Water Crisis

Srinagar, Feb 16, KNT: Residents of Magam, including men and women, staged a protest on the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway on Friday, blocking traffic to voice their anger over the persistent lack of clean drinking water in the area. The demonstrators accused the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department of failing to provide basic amenities, leaving the community without access to potable water for months.
The protest disrupted traffic movement for some time, causing inconvenience to commuters. The protesters demanded immediate intervention from the authorities, stressing that they have been facing severe hardships due to the ongoing water crisis.
SHO Magam Mudassar Ahmed reached the protest site and assured the demonstrators that their grievances would be conveyed to the concerned authorities. Following his assurance, the protesters agreed to temporarily call off their demonstration. Later, Tehsildar Magam also arrived at the scene and pledged to address the issue promptly. [KNT]
