Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Unveils 2025 Islamic Calligraphy Calendar, Calls for Heritage and Environmental Conservation
Srinagar, Jan 10, KNT: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq unveiled the 2025 Islamic Calligraphy Calendar at Jama Masjid, highlighting its theme, “The Splendour of Islamic Calligraphy.” The calendar celebrates the historical evolution, diversity, and cultural influences of this art form, emphasizing its connection to the Quran and spiritual heritage.
Addressing the gathering, the Mirwaiz called for safeguarding Kashmir’s heritage, environment, and ecology, which he said are integral to the region’s identity and future survival. Quoting a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), he stressed the Islamic duty to protect nature, avoid wastage, and care for Allah’s creations.
The Mirwaiz expressed concern over critical environmental issues, such as the record-low water levels of the Jhelum River, glacier loss, and unplanned urbanization. He urged striking a balance between development and ecological preservation, warning that continued negligence could lead to devastating consequences.
He called on the government, civil society, and citizens to take collective action to protect Kashmir’s natural and cultural heritage, advocating for a vision-driven approach with comprehensive planning for sustainable development.
Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid announced that the calendar will be available at Jama Masjid Srinagar, Gulshan Books Residency Road, and Sheikh Mohammad Usman & Sons Gaw Kadal next week for a nominal fee of ₹75.
