The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has raised concerns over the recent appointment of a Principal at the Madre-e-Meharban Institute of Nursing Sciences and Research (MMINSR), SKIMS, citing non-compliance with Indian Nursing Council (INC) guidelines.
The Association has called for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s intervention to ensure adherence to INC norms and safeguard the standards of nursing education at MMINSR.
National Convener Nasir Khuehami highlighted that the INC mandates an M.Sc. Nursing degree with at least 15 years of experience in nursing for the position of Principal at a nursing institute. He argued that appointing a candidate from the Department of Neurology without the required qualifications violates these guidelines, undermining nursing education standards.
Khuehami also noted that the dual administrative responsibilities given to the appointee could hinder their productivity and disrupt the institute’s operations.
National Secretary and Spokesperson Malik Adnan stressed the importance of compliance with INC regulations to uphold transparency and quality in nursing education. He urged SKIMS authorities to promptly rectify the issue, emphasizing that such decisions could have long-term repercussions on MMINSR’s reputation and the future of its students.
The JKSA called for immediate action to ensure fairness and maintain high standards in healthcare education, warning that failure to address the matter could damage the institution’s credibility.
