CM Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani Welcomes Z-Morh Tunnel, Envisions Sonamarg as Premier Skiing Destination

Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, hailed the opening of the Z-Morh Tunnel as a significant step forward, calling it a long-awaited demand of local residents and tourism stakeholders.
Wani emphasized the tunnel’s potential to transform Sonamarg into a premier all-season destination for skiing and winter sports. “Tourists have eagerly awaited access to this area. The slopes here are ideal for skiing, and with proper development, Sonamarg can become a top ski resort. Once the Zojila Pass is operational, the entire region will benefit from enhanced connectivity,” he stated.
He noted that improved road access would not only boost tourism but also contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the region. “Better connectivity means progress, increased tourist arrivals, and growth for the area,” he added.
When asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit and potential announcements on restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Wani refrained from speculation. “It would be premature to comment. However, the Prime Minister is well aware of our demand for statehood and has even committed to it in Parliament,” he said.
Addressing the prospects of winter sports in Sonamarg, Wani stressed the importance of strategic planning and infrastructure development. “To maximize this region’s potential, professional consultants are essential. The natural slopes here offer immense opportunities for skiing and other winter sports,” he explained.
The Z-Morh Tunnel is expected to provide year-round access to Sonamarg, positioning it as a major hub for tourism and winter activities in the country.
