Avalanche Triggered in Gulmarg During Routine Snow Safety Exercise

Baramulla, Jan 7, KNT: Ski resort Gulmarg, Tuesday witnessed a controlled avalanche as part of routine winter safety protocols.

The Assistant Director of Tourism, Gulmarg, informed the news agency Kashmir News Trust that controlled blasting was carried out at Afarwat to prepare slopes for skiing and reduce the risk of natural avalanches in the future.

“This controlled avalanche was part of our routine winter exercise, carefully managed under the supervision of our Snow Safety Officer and the team,” the official stated.

He said that this practice has been in place for years, and there is no cause for concern.”

Authorities assured tourists and locals that such measures are conducted to enhance the safety of skiers and visitors at the tourist resort.

“The exercise is an integral part of the resort’s preparations during the winter season to mitigate potential risks posed by heavy snow accumulation.” [KNT]
