Attack on Jammu BJP leader: Police arrest accused Govt employee

Jammu, Jan 4, KNT: Police Saturday said that in response to a shootout over a parking dispute in the New Plot area of Jammu district, they arrested the accused and recovered the weapon within six hours of the incident.

“The incident occurred on Friday when BJP leader Advocate Kanav Sharma was parking his vehicle near the Power Development Department lineman’s room. Ravinder Singh, a PDD employee, objected to the parking, leading to a heated argument.”

During the altercation, a scuffle broke out, and Ravinder Singh allegedly drew his licensed pistol and fired two rounds at Advocate Sharma. The victim was immediately rushed to Sarwal Hospital for first aid and later shifted to Government Medical College for further treatment. Singh fled the scene following the shooting.

The Jammu Police said that it launched a manhunt and apprehended Ravinder Singh, also known as Kaka, within hours. The weapon used in the crime was also recovered.

Ravinder Singh, a permanent government employee currently posted at Parade, Jammu, was reportedly performing his duties in the New Plot area at the time of the incident.

A case has been registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar in this regard and an investigation is going on. [KNT]
