Strict action against fee-hiking schools, Assures Education Minister
Srinagar, Dec 5, KNT: Education Minister Sakina Itoo Thursday issued a stern warning to private schools charging excessive fees from parents, stating that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar on Monday, Sakina Itoo emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting parents’ rights. “Nobody is above the law. Schools engaging in unfair practices will be dealt with strictly,” she said.
She urged parents facing fee-related issues to directly report their grievances to the Education Department or contact her office with proof. “We encourage parents to approach us with specific complaints and supporting documentation. This will enable swift action against offending schools,” she said.
The minister as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust discouraged parents from airing grievances on social or electronic media, citing potential misinformation and delays. “Instead, we invite parents to engage directly with the department for prompt resolution,” she said.
Regarding the upcoming winter break, the Minister clarified that winter vacation is a routine exercise. “Our academic calendar has been adjusted from March to November-December. Following examinations, students will proceed on winter break,” she said. [KNT]
