Sopore Police Registers 56 Drug Cases in 2024, Seizes Drugs Worth ₹65 Lakh: SP Sopore Divya D
Sopore, Dec 30, KNT: SP Sopore Divya D Monday addressed a press conference and highlighted the concerted efforts of Sopore Police under its zero-tolerance policy towards drugs.
She revealed that in the year 2024 alone, Sopore Police registered 56 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During the press briefing, SP Divya D shared that 88 drug peddlers had been arrested and proper legal cases had been filed against 20 notorious drug dealers operating in the Sopore.
She said that Sopore Police, in collaboration with the State Investigating Agency, successfully seized two residential houses linked to drug trafficking activities.
“The police operation also led to the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal drugs, with an international market value of approximately Rs 65 lakh. The drugs were confiscated as part of an ongoing effort to curb the rising menace of drug abuse in the region,” SP Sopore as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said.
SP Sopore Divya D said that Sopore Police took swift action to destroy bhung (hemp) and poppy cultivation on 13 kanal of land, marking a major victory in the battle against illegal narcotic farming.
SP Divya D emphasized that the police, through various awareness campaigns, had actively educated the public about the dangers of drug abuse. “We have been working relentlessly to create awareness and empower the people to take a stand against drugs,” she said.
She expressed her gratitude towards the people of Sopore for their continued support and for reposing faith in the police’s efforts.
In her appeal to the youth, SP Divya D urged them to say no to drugs, stressing the harmful impact it can have on their futures. She also called on teachers and parents to play a more proactive role in helping to eradicate this dangerous menace from society.
“We all must work together to protect our youth from falling prey to drugs,” she said. [KNT]
