Lashkar-e-Taiba top commander Junaid Bhat killed in Dachigam encounter: Police
Srinagar, Dec 3, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Police Tuesday neutralized Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) A category militant commander, Junaid Bhat in an encounter in Dachigam belt of Srinagar outskirts.
Bhat, according to police was a key suspect in the October 20 attack in Gagangir, Ganderbal, where seven civilians, including a Kashmiri doctor, lost their lives.
The police said that the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to a cordon-and-search operation in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest. As security forces closed in, Bhat opened fire, sparking a gunfight that ultimately resulted in his killing.
Junaid Bhat, a category “A” militant from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, was identified as one of the two attackers through CCTV footage of the Gagangir incident. His involvement in multiple militant attacks made him a high-priority target for security forces. [KNT]
