Efforts underway to combat winter power woes in Kashmir: Vijay Kumar Bidhuri
Srinagar, Dec 11, KNT: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Wednesday said that the government has intensified efforts to address power demands and minimize unscheduled cuts during the winter season.
He said the administration is coordinating with central authorities for additional power supply and monitoring the situation closely.
While talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event marking World Mountain Day in Srinagar, Bidhuri said as harsh winter has approached the administration is fully geared up to deal with the situation.
He said areas like Razdan Pass and Zojila have already witnessed snowfall and they are ready and have made all arrangements.
He assured that adequate stocks of essential supplies, including diesel, petrol, and LPG, are in place for up to 18 days. “The situation is being reviewed daily to ensure minimal inconvenience to residents,” he added.
Regarding electricity outages, Bidhuri said that all 133 power stations of 33KVA are operational, with only six out of 1,273 KV lines facing breakdowns. He added that approximately 50 transformers sustain daily damage due to the extreme cold, with repair efforts underway to resolve these issues swiftly.
He, however, acknowledged the persistent issue of unscheduled cuts but said that steps are being taken at the highest level to secure extra power supply and manage demand efficiently. He also urged residents to avoid using crude heating devices, which often cause fire accidents. [KNT]
