Srinagar, Dec 31, KNT: In 2024, at least 39 encounters raged across Jammu and Kashmir. In Srinagar, encounters took place in the Khanyar and Dachigam areas, while Kulgam saw gunfights in Kaddar, Hadigam, Badimarg, Payen Redwani, and Chinnigam Frisal villages. The Modergam and Adigam Devsar villages in Kulgam also witnessed bloody gunfights.
The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that Shopian reported an encounter in the Chotigam area, while Pulwama saw fierce fighting in Frasipora and Nehama villages.
In Bandipora, the Gurez Sector, Nagamarg, Panner, Ketsun forest area, and Aragam were sites of deadly gunfights. Baramulla experienced intense encounters in Rajpora, Sagipora, Nowpora, Hadipora, and areas like Uri Sector, Watergam, Chak Tappar Kreeri, and Kamalkote. Botapathri Gulmarg also witnessed a deadly encounter.
In South Kashmir’s Anantnag, gunfights took place in Ahlan Gagarmandu forest area of Kokarnag and Hakan Gali Shangus, and Kupwara witnessed multiple operations in the Keran Sector, Kowat Lolab, Kamkari Sector Thregam, Lola Bara, Tangdhar, Machil Sector, and Kumkhadi.
In Kathua, encounters took place in Saida Sukhal village, Badnota, and Kogmandali villages. Doda also saw several encounters, particularly in the Kota Top, Dandoh, Bajad, Assar, Deesa, and Jaddan Bata forest areas.
Poonch reported significant gunfights in Batal Sector, Sarankote, and Pathanateer, while in Rajouri, encounters raged in Lathi, Karyote, and the Nowshera Sector. Udhampur had operations in the Khanned upper reaches.
Kishtwar saw multiple engagements in Pingnal Dugadda forest area and Keshwan, while in Reasi, gunfight broke out in the Shikari area of Mahore.
Lastly, Akhnoor Jammu was also the site of a gunfight between militants and joint forces. [KNT]
