Uphold the Supreme Court directions on J&K’s statehood, Congress to Central Govt
Srinagar, Nov 25, KNT: Indian National Congress Monday asked the Central Government to uphold the directions of the Supreme Court and restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible.
While talking to reporters, Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President, Tariq Hameed Karra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised in Srinagar on September 19 that statehood will be restored “as soon as possible.”
He said the aspirations and emotions of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been hurt due to the delay in restoring the statehood. “The delay is an assault on the democratic rights of the people,” he said.
Karra said that they are demanding what has been promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by the BJP-led Central Government. “We are disappointed, the way this matter is being stretched. Despite assurances being given by the Central Government on statehood, no progress can be seen in this regard,” he said adding that even the Supreme Court had directed the Central Government to restore statehood.
