Safety for Sale: Brokers Compromise Road Safety in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 18, KNT: A shocking revelation has come to light in Srinagar, where brokers are allegedly charging Rs 500 to tamper with road speed governors for commercial vehicles. This illicit practice not only undermines road safety, but also poses a significant threat to lives.

“The tampering of speed governors is a serious concern that needs immediate attention,” said a senior citizen.

Reliable sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that drivers are willing to pay Rs 500 to brokers who adjust the speed governors to deceive regulating authorities. This allows commercial vehicles to exceed speed limits, increasing the risk of accidents.

“We have noticed a rise in speeding cases involving commercial vehicles, and tampered speed governors could be a major contributor,” said a local.

Traffic Police has been urging everyone to play a role in stopping frequent road accidents. However, the tampering of speed governors highlights a more systemic issue that requires prompt action from authorities.

Tampered speed governors allow commercial vehicles to exceed speed limits, putting lives at risk. The practice compromises the effectiveness of speed governors, designed to prevent accidents.  Tampered devices make it challenging for regulating authorities to enforce speed limits.

Concerned citizens have appealed to authorities to crack down on brokers tampering with speed governors and ensure that commercial vehicles comply with safety regulations. [KNT]
