Srinagar, Nov 18, KNT: Civil contractors in Kashmir Valley have been facing a financial crisis as they have not received payments for their completed projects due to a severe cash shortage at the Treasuries.
Many contractors told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that for over a month, Treasury officers have been denying payments, citing the government’s failure to replenish funds.
“This is a double whammy for us,” said a contractor. The government is pressing us to meet deadlines, but they are not releasing our dues,” they said and appealed to authorities to release payments for their completed works.
When contacted, a top official feigned ignorance saying he would still look into the matter. [KNT]
