School safety at stake: heavy vehicles Ply during restricted hours

Srinagar, Oct 4, KNT:  Concerned citizens and parents have urged the traffic department to enforce stricter regulations on the movement of tippers and trucks between Lasjan and Mehjoor Nagar via Padshahi Bagh. Despite designated no-entry restrictions, these heavy vehicles continue to ply during restricted hours, posing a significant risk to school-going children and office-goers.

Some locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the unrestricted access of trucks and tippers has become a constant source of anxiety for parents, who fear for their children’s safety as they walk to and from school. They said that office-goers also face difficulties due to congestion and traffic jams caused by these vehicles.

“The traffic department must ensure these heavy vehicles adhere to restricted hours. We’re worried about our children’s safety, and the situation is precarious. There is every possibility of a mishap,” said a concerned parent.

Locals said that the constant flow of trucks and tippers endangers students, disrupts daily commutes, increases air pollution, and generates excessive noise.

They appealed to the traffic department to take immediate action to regulate heavy vehicle movement. They called for strict enforcement of no-entry restrictions, designated alternative routes for heavy vehicles, increased traffic policing, and improved road safety measures. [KNT]
