Rainawari Residents Plagued by Muddy Tap Water: Acute Crisis Sparks Health Concerns

Srinagar, Oct 11, KNT: Residents of Mughal Mohallah and Kochay Maidan in Rainawari here in Srinagar are grappling with a severe water shortage, forced to fetch drinking water from neighboring areas due to the supply of extremely muddy tap water. The crisis, persisting for several weeks, has left locals frustrated and alarmed.

Residents told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the murky tap water, thick with mud, renders it undrinkable and unusable for cooking, cleaning, or personal hygiene. “We are compelled to walk long distances or rely on friends and relatives in other parts of Srinagar to access clean water,” they said.

Health concerns are mounting, with locals vulnerable to water-borne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and gastrointestinal infections. “This contaminated water poses serious health risks,” the locals said.

Despite repeated complaints to the concerned department, the issue remains unresolved. Residents demand immediate intervention, urging the department to restore a clean and safe water supply.

“We have raised the issue multiple times, but no one is listening,” lamented the locals. [KNT]
