Major Interstate Drug Racket Busted in South Kashmir, 3 Non-Locals Arrested

Anantnag, Oct 12, KNT: In a significant crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, the Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have dismantled a major network, arresting three individuals involved in the illicit trade.

The police said that acting on credible information about a consignment of narcotic drugs being transported from Delhi to Srinagar, the police established multiple checkpoints along the route. A Toyota car was intercepted at Doonipora Bijbehra, with three occupants onboard – Monty Singh from Bulandshahar, UP, and Ashish Bardawaj and Rahul from Chhatarpur, New Delhi.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 413 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (NRX), branded as Codril-T, concealed in the door panels. The three accused were arrested and taken into custody at Police Station Bijbehara.

The Police said that further investigation revealed that the consignment was intended for delivery in Sopore and Srinagar. A local smuggler from Sopore was detained for questioning, providing valuable leads in the case.

The police said that the collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in New Delhi led to a raid on a warehouse in Noida’s Sector 135, resulting in the recovery of a substantial quantity of Codeine. The masterminds behind the racket, Sachin Rana and Arun Rana, both residents of Faridabad, have been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

“This operation has successfully uncovered both the forward and backward linkages of the interstate drug network, with further arrests expected as the investigation continues,” said the police. [KNT]
