Baramulla Police Smash Heroin Trafficking Network, Seize Rs 20 Crore Worth of Narcotics
Baramulla, Oct 29, KNT: In a massive crackdown on drug trafficking, Baramulla Police have dismantled a major heroin smuggling ring, arresting three key figures and seizing 2.7 kilograms of narcotics worth Rs 20 crore.
Police said that they detained an individual Nazim Din, 28, from Zamboor Pattan Uri, during a surprise checkpoint at NHW Khanpora.
Upon searching him, police found 519 grams of heroin hidden under his armpit. Further investigation revealed his involvement in drug trafficking, allegedly orchestrated by an individual from Downtown Srinagar known as “Mir Sb.” Din disclosed that he and associate Waqar Ahmad Khawaja, 25, from Tangdhar, Kupwara, received a heroin consignment on October 17, 2024, from a woman near Noora Hospital in Srinagar.
The duo used Khawaja’s Maruti Ertiga vehicle (JK09D-5822) to transport the contraband from Srinagar to Handwara, distributing the drugs among local associates. Police apprehended Khawaja near Handwara Bye-Pass crossing, seizing 475 grams of heroin from his vehicle.
A third accomplice, Manzoor Bhat, 50, from Marathgam, Handwara, was arrested on October 27, 2024. A search of his residence uncovered 1,701 grams of heroin concealed in his wardrobe.
The vehicle used in transporting the drugs has been confiscated, and all suspects are currently under police remand. The investigation is going on to identify other members of the trafficking network, including the Srinagar-based figure suspected of orchestrating local distribution. [KNT]
