Restoration of Democracy: Ladakh Delegation To Hold Protests in Delhi
Srinagar, Sep 26, KNT: A 15-member delegation from Kargil embarked on a journey to Chandigarh today, where they will unite with representatives from Leh. Dubbed the “Caravan for Restoration of Democracy in Ladakh,” the delegation aims to persuade the Government of India to concede to their four pivotal demands: statehood, Sixth Schedule status, establishment of a Public Service Commission, and separate parliamentary representation for Kargil and Leh regions.
A prominent political figure from Kargil, Sajjad Kargili told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the delegation is an amalgam of political, social, and religious leaders. He said the delegation’s quest seeks to address Ladakh’s unique cultural and linguistic identity, ensure fair employment opportunities, and amplify the voices of both Kargil and Leh in Parliament.
Kagili informed that the delegation from Kargil will reach Chandigarh where a delegation from Leh is already stationed. “From Chandigarh we will march to Delhi. On 2 October, we will register a protest at Raj Ghat and on the next day on 3 October another protest will be held at Jantar Mantar New Delhi,” he said adding that they won’t meet any politician or government official during their protest march program.
“Ladakh’s patience is running out. We appeal to the government to resume talks and address our demands without further delay,” Sajjad Kargili said. [KNT]
