Militancy-related incidents claim 11 lives in August

 

Srinagar, Sep 2, KNT: The month of August saw a significant increase in militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in casualties on both sides. The joint forces faced a challenging month, with encounters breaking out in various parts of the erstwhile state.

The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that a total of 4 security personnel, including an Army Captain, and a CRPF Inspector, lost their lives in the line of duty. Additionally, a civilian was killed, and another sustained injuries. Besides, 4 soldiers and a Village Defense Guard member also suffered injuries in militancy-related incidents.

On the other hand, the joint forces neutralized at least 5 militants, including an unidentified militant killed in a shootout in Sopore. Among these 5 militants, 3 were infiltrators. The joint forces also foiled several infiltration bids along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar and Machil Sectors of North Kashmir.

Encounters broke out at various locations, including Kokarnag, Udhampur, Doda, Kupwara, and Rajouri. BSF personnel also killed an alleged intruder in the Samba region.

The month saw a total of 9 encounters, with multiple locations witnessing the exchange of fire between militants and joint forces.

In brief, the month of August in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 11 human casualties which included an intruder, 3 soldiers, a civilian, 2 militants, a CRPF officer, and 3 infiltrators. [KNT]
