Congress General Secretary resigns, will take on Alliance candidate
Srinagar, Sep 2, KNT: In a surprise move, Waseem Shala, Senior Congress leader and General Secretary for Jammu and Kashmir, has resigned from the party. Shala submitted his resignation and filed nomination papers to contest as an Independent candidate from the Khanyar Constituency in Srinagar.
Shala confirmed his decision to the Kashmir News Trust, citing dissatisfaction with the Congress-NC alliance. He stated that party leaders had expressed unhappiness with the alliance, which they felt had weakened the Congress party. Shala noted that in past alliances, NC supporters never voted for Congress candidates, while Congress supporters had willingly voted for NC candidates.
“With a heavy heart, I have resigned from the party and filed the nomination papers today to contest from Khanyar Assembly Constituency,” he said.
In the Khanyar Constituency, Ali Muhammad Sagar is the INC-NC Alliance candidate.
The Khanyar Assembly segment is scheduled to go to polls on 25 September. [KNT]
