CRPF Officer Killed In Udhampur Militant Attack

 

Udhampur, Aug 19, KNT: An exchange of fire broke out between security forces and militants in the Cheel area of Ramnagar in Udhampur district of Jammu region on Monday. The encounter resulted in the death of Inspector Kuldeep Singh.

According to reports, the gunfight began at 3:30 pm when militants opened fire on a joint patrol of CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police SOG teams. The security forces retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of Dadu Police Station.

Shortly after the incident, the joint forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation.

The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust shows that three militancy-related incidents have occurred in the Udhampur district prior to today’s incident.

On 28 April, a Village Defence Guard (VDG) Muhammad Sharif of Lower Ponar was killed in an exchange of fire during an encounter between police personnel and militants, hiding in Chochru Gala heights in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district.

On 10 July, militants attacked police post-Sang in Basantgarh Udhampur. However, no loss was reported.

On 11 August, an encounter broke out between militants and joint forces in Khanned upper reaches of Udhampur district. [KNT]
