Stopping infiltration not job of politicians: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar, July 16, KNT: Following the Doda encounter and in response to DGP’s recent remarks on mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir, former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti claimed that instead of performing his job, the incumbent police chief is busy trying to divide PDP.

Mehbooba Mufti alleged that DGP wants to “hide his failures and hide behind the mainstream and regional political parties”.

“Soldiers from all over the country come to Kashmir for their duty, but go back in coffins. Who is responsible for this if you say militancy has ended in the valley?”

She alleged that maximum casualties have taken place in the last 32 months since the appointment of the current DGP. She further criticized the PM Modi-led government at the Centre, asking, “Whose responsibility is it to stop infiltration?”

She accused DGP of “waging war” against the majority community. “There is no accountability. Heads should roll. DGP should have been sacked by now. There is no freedom. Even Journalists can’t speak. Employees on religious lines are being terminated. People are being harassed in the name of verifications,” she said.

Pertinently, yesterday while speaking at a function at IIM Jammu, DGP Swain had accused mainstream political parties of facilitating Pakistan’s infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir civil society. He had even said that it was normal to visit the homes of militants killed by security forces for political gains.

Mehbooba Mufti said that the DGP Swain is busier politicking than doing his job as the police chief. “We had DGPs from outside the state as well in the past, they have done good work. This DGP is working on communal lines.

She said for the last six years situation has deteriorated. “The BJP narrative is that all is well. The people of the North elected a man who pitched for the plebiscite and they defeated the nationalist forces who worked for the country. Everything in J&K has been messed up. People including journalists, employees, businessmen are being silenced on the barrel of the gun,” she said. [KNT]
