15 casualties reported this year in Jammu region

Jammu, June 12, KNT: Six districts of Jammu region witnessed at least 9 militancy-related incidents this year till date. In these incidents, 15 people including 10 civilians have been killed.

The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that among the 9 militancy-related incidents in the Jammu region, 3 occurred in Rajouri, 2 incidents happened in Poonch, and one each in Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua, and Doda.

At least 15 persons were killed in these incidents. These included 2 soldiers, one army porter, 10 civilians, a VDC member, and one militant. Besides 6 soldiers and dozens of civilians sustained injuries. A youth was also killed in an incident of alleged mistaken identity in Samba district by Border Security Forces.

In the first month of the ongoing year, militants attacked a forces convoy in Krishna Ghati Poonch, however, all the soldiers escaped unhurt.

An army soldier Agniveer Ajay Singh was killed while two others were injured in an IED blast in the Nowshera Sector of Rajouri district.

Army porter Rajesh Kumar was killed in an explosion near LoC in  Nowshera Rajouri.

A govt employee who was the brother of a TA soldier was shot dead by militants in Kundar village of Thanamandi Rajouri.

In April this year, a Village Defence Guard (VDG) Muhammad Sharif of Lower Ponar was killed in an exchange of fire during an encounter between police personnel and militants, hiding in Chochru Gala Heights in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district.

In Sanai Top area of Poonch, a soldier was killed and four others sustained injuries in a gunfight.

In a recent incident of militancy,  At least 9 pilgrims from UP, Delhi and Rajasthan were killed and dozens injured after militants fired upon a bus on way to Katra from Shiv Khori temple Ramsou in Pouni area of Reasi district of Jammu.

Yesterday, a militant was killed in Saida Sukhal village in Hiranagar Kathua after militants fired upon civilians injuring one. Shortly after this incident, militants fired on a joint checkpost of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police in the Chatergala area of the Doda district. [KNT]
