Boulder hits truck on Srinagar-Jammu highway, 2 dead

Two persons died after a massive boulder hit a truck near Digdole on Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

Deputy Commissioner Ramban informed that two persons were feared trapped after a shooting stone hit their truck near Digdole on Srinagar-Jammu highway. They have reportedly died.  He said the police & Quick Reaction Team of Ramban have rushed to the spot.

He advised people to drive on Highway with caution.

Reports said that a boulder hit a 12-tire truck (JK13D-730) resulting in the killing of the driver as well as the conductor of the ill-fated truck. The incident occurred near Khoninallah Digdol area of Ramban district of Jammu.

Police and other rescue teams have been pressed into service to retrieve the bodies.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the deceased are the natives of Pulwama district. They have been identified as Maqsood Ahmed of Mughalpora Pulwama and Naveed Ahmed, a resident of Nikas village of Pulwama.

Earlier during the day, the vehicles moving towards Jammu from Srinagar were stopped after shooting stones atop the hill glided, and blocked the road near Panthyal. [KNT]
