A day after police cane-charged protesting Rehbar Khail teachers in Jammu, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has described the police action as shameful and a bid to silence the protesters with sticks.
“Shameful to see LG admin resort to lathis & sticks to silence Rehbar Khail teachers simply for making legitimate demands. Instead of treating it as a genuine problem & addressing it on humanitarian grounds, they’d much rather use lathis & not spare even female protestors,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India Marxist senior leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami while condemning the police action said that the use of force against the Rehbar-e-Khel teachers is rather deplorable. “These employees are working on paltry salaries over the last many years. Instead of forcing them to hit the streets, the government must accede to their genuine demands,” he added.
Notably, Police yesterday resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse protesting Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers demanding regularisation. Agitating ReK teachers had started the protest march from outside the Press Club of Jammu but contingent of police deployed, prevented them and cane charged the protesters including females. (KNT)
