The locals of Badran Magam village here in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district staged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to replace the decaying electric poles and dangling rusty wires.

The protesters alleged that the local Sarpanch supplied a couple of new electric poles to his relatives while PDD didn’t take cognizance of the matter, even though they had apprised the department about the development.

The protesters told news agency Kashmir News Trust that due to the low-lying rusty transmission lines and decaying wooden poles, they have been living under constant threat.

“Almost all the electric poles installed in the village got damaged decades ago but the PDD has failed to install new poles despite repeated requests,” the protesters said adding that the dangling rusty wires can become a source of mishaps in the hamlet.

When contacted AEE Beerwah said that poles and wires will be replaced in the village. [KNT]
