Shopkeeper beheaded in Udaipur over social media post on Nupur Sharma

In a shocking video that has been shared on social media platforms, a Hindu shopkeeper is seen being murdered by two men in Udaipur. In a separate video, the two accused are seen with the alleged murder weapon, admitting to killing the man over a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma, India Today reported.

India Today TV has learnt that the murder followed a post put up by the shopkeeper’s eight-year-old son in support of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma. Nupur Sharma was recently in the news for her controversial statements about Prophet Muhammad.

On Tuesday, a video emerged on social media showing two men entering a tailor’s shop in Udaipur and proceeding to attack him with knives. In a separate video posted by the two men, the duo is heard admitting to the murder and threatening PM Narendra Modi.

The police have said that they have identified the alleged murderers and are searching for them. The Superintendent of Police of Udaipur said, “A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. Few accused have been identified. Police teams have been constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act.”

The murder sparked tensions in Udaipur with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealing for calm. “I condemn the heinous murder of youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will go to the bottom of the crime. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace,” Gehlot said in a tweet.
