Trio injured in a scuffle during ‘Gram Sabha’ meeting in North Kashmir, Police register counter FIRs

Sumbal: Police registered back-to-back FIRs after 3 persons sustained injuries in a scuffle during a ‘Gram Sabha’ meeting in Nesbal Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Local sources said that a ‘Gram Sabha’ meeting was held today in Nesbal area that was presided by protected Sarpanch Mehrajuddin Rather. Panchs and other respectable citizens were also part of the meeting.

They said heated arguments were exchanged between the Sarpanch and some members of the Gram Sabha over some incomplete allotted works. The situation turned ugly when the Sarpanch, his supporters, and the other members started hitting one another. At least 3 persons sustained injuries who were hospitalized at Sub-District Hospital Sumbal.

The kins of injured persons alleged that the Sarpanch is misusing his security. They identified the injured as Ghulam Mustafa Rather, Abdul Majeed Bhat and Muhammad Shafi Rather, all residents of Nesbal.

SHO Police Station Sumbal, Muhammad Saleem told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a party approached the police station accusing Sarpanch of assault and they registered a formal case in this regard. He added that after some time, they registered a counter FIR when the opposite party leveled the same allegations against the previous party.

“Investigation has been taken up and arrests if any will be made in the case,” the police officer said. (KNT)
