Water enters into residential areas after breach in power canal in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal

Ganderbal: Following heavy rains in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal and surrounding areas, the power canal at Baba Wayil Padshahibagh witnessed a breech as a result water entered farmlands and residential areas on Friday.

Eyewitnesses told news agency Kashmir News Trust that water entered into several houses at Nunar and Gotlibagh areas of Ganderbal. Due to accumulation of waters, traffic on Ganderbal-Kangan road was disrupted.

Witnesses added that water entered not only in houses but also in agricultural land and security camps.

District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Kritika Jyotsna told KNT that teams of police and civil officials have rushed to spots and are assisting people. She said that water has entered into a couple of houses in Nunnar and Gotlibagh.

“Our teams are there to assess the situation,” she said.

The breach and subsequent release of waters into the residential areas created panic among locals. Some people were seen taking out their belongings from the ground floor to safer places. Police were seen helping people at Nunnar and Gotlibagh. (KNT)
