Srinagar, Jan 29, KNT: Higher Education Department has constituted an Inquiry Officer to conduct a time-bound probe into the allegations leveled against Islamia College of Science and Commerce over a decade ago that it has embezzled UGC grant.
Sources said that University Grants Commission had provided a financial grant, earmarked for various developmental works for Islamia College of Science and Commerce Srinagar.
Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that some members from the College had alleged some 12 years ago that the UGC grant for the college has been misappropriated.
Taking cognizance of the allegations, Principal Secretary to the Government Higher Education Department, Rohit Kansal has appointed Director Planning Higher Education Department Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Ganie as Inquiry Officer to look into these allegations.
An official said that the Inquiry Officer has been directed to submit his report within four weeks’ time.
Insiders said that Higher Education Department has taken cognizance of the allegations after 12 years. They said UGC grant of Rs 1.50 crore was given to the college in two installments back in 2010. Even the College authorities back then provided a ‘Utilization Report’ to UGC but some people alleged that funds were not utilized for the development of the College and approached Vigilance Commission. Now after 12 years, Higher Education Department has appointed an Inquiry Officer to probe the matter. (KNT)
