‘If everything is normal, why need to bring in more armed forces to Kashmir, asks Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: Claiming that Prime Minister’s Care Fund (PMCF) is the biggest symbol of ‘sophisticated’ corruption, Peoples Democratic party president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Monday said that political leaders are being threatened to join B-teams of BJP or be ready to get jailed.

Lashing out at BJP led Central Government for giving a deaf ear to the demands of protesting farmers, Mehbooba Mufti said that this government is full of arrogance that is always showing cold response to the needs and demands of people. “This time will change and I am hopeful things will change on the ground the way BJP was decimated in recent by polls in some states,” she said.

While reacting to the statement made by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sita Raman that graph of violence has come down and Jammu and Kashmir is moving towards the path of progress after the abrogation of Article 370, Mehbooba said that BJP is known for ‘jumla-bazi’. “Thousands of youth were jailed before the arrival of Union Home Minister in Kashmir. After his departure, more arrests were made and this process of arrests has been going on,” she said.

Mehbooba Mufti as per news agency Kashmir News Trust said that there is influx of armed forces in Kashmir and more check-points and bunkers are being created. “If everything is normal why there is need to bring in more central armed forces to Kashmir and why more bunkers are being set up,” she questioned adding that whatever BJP claims or says carry no weight while the fact is that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is altogether different than what is being painted.

Mehbooba was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a joining function here in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

She said people are chocked and are being silenced on gun point and this silence is being portrayed as ‘peace’ which is absolutely wrong.

She said BJP Central Government did nothing for the people and the country and the glaring examples are de-monetization and ‘sophisticated’ corruption. “PM Cares Fund is the biggest example of sophisticated corruption. There is no accountability and government is not ready to share details about this account with the people,” she said.

She castigated the government for sacking government employees at will. “Neither there is any accountability nor any court. Whatever the government wishes, that is being done. The government acts as a court in itself and gives verdict without listening to anyone,” she said.

She said time will change and a time will come when this government will feel the heat and consequences of their actions.

In response to a question, she said that security situation in Valley has deteriorated while out of frustration this government is targeting innocent civilians. “What was the need of new agency SIA when already so much agencies exist. Yesterday, a policeman was killed in Batamaloo. It speaks volumes about the deteriorating security situation of Valley,” she said.

Mehbooba Mufti said that political leaders are being forced to join B-teams of BJP. “You might have noticed that there were so many leaders against whom cases were withdrawn after they joined new political parties. Leaders are being asked to either go to jail or join this and that political party. They want to create number of parties to counter PDP and NC,” she said.

She said it is very difficult for people to join PDP at this critical juncture and yet some are joining just because they knew that PDP is the only party that can represent and speak for the rights of the people,” she said. (KNT)
