Cloud bursts hit 4 villages of Central Kashmir’s Kangan

KANGAN: Cloud bursts at few places in upper reaches of Central Kashmir’s Kangan villages have damaged roads, houses and crops.

Locals said that cloud bursts occur in Bagh Pati Surfraw, Sumbal Bala Gund, Dard Wuddar and Yachhama villages of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on late Sunday night. Interestingly, before cloud burst, Sumbal Balagund was hit by a mud slide but the men from Borders Road Organization had cleared the road during the day.

Property and farm land suffered partial damage in Sumbal Bala Gund, Dard Wuddar and Yachhama villages due to cloud burst, but at Bagh Pati Surfraw cloud burst triggered flash floods damaging roads and farm land. Water even entered some houses while a brick factory also suffered damage.

A team led by Sub-Divisional Kangan Hakim Tanvir, Tehsildar Gund Fariduddin Kathana, Naib Tehsildar Gund Muhammad Maqbool and other officials visited the affected areas to assess the situation.

Sub-Divisional Kangan Hakim Tanvir told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a link road connecting Ganewan and Sumbal has been damaged and efforts are on to restore this road. He said crops on farm land comprising 150 kanals have been damaged while a brick factory too has sustained losses.

“We are assessing the losses and affected people will be compensated,” he told KNT.
