Breach in Jehlum embankment in North Kashmir’s Shadipora triggers protest

Bandipora: A breach in river Jhelum embankment in North Kashmir’s Shadipora area of Bandipora district triggered protest on Monday.

People hit to roads and blocked the traffic demanding action against the officials of Irrigation and Flood Control Department Sumbal.

The breach according to protesters brought back the haunting memories of 2014 devastating floods.

The protesters told news agency Kashmir News Trust that  breach at the same spot in 2014 had left the entire Shadipora area submerged for weeks together. They slammed the government for “failing” to repair the river bunds.

The commuters faced a lot of inconvenience due to protest and closure of the road.

“It is really shameful that I&FC Department didn’t repair crucial embankments of river Jhelum and results are in front of us today,” the protesters said.

Officials from I&FC Department along with police rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters with the assurance and embankment will be repaired without any delay. (KNT)
