Kashmir: ‘Elaqai Dehati Bank’ ‘harasses’ loan takers

KANGAN: Loan takers from ‘Elaqai Dehati Bank’ from Gund area of Kangan here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have been accusing recovery agents of ‘harassment’.

Several people who have secured loan from the Gund Branch of Elaqai Dehati Bank told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the bank especially the recovery agents are harassing them on daily basis.

“I continue to get phone calls. They are constantly harassing me. It not just me, I know several others facing the same problem,” a loan taker said.

“We incurred losses due to Covid-19 related lockdown. Since August 2019, our business didn’t grow and instead we suffered we suffered huge economic losses,” he said.

He said bank is threatening him to send a legal notice. Another loan taker seconded him and said that the was also warned of legal action if he doesn’t repay his debt to the bank.

They said other banks have given concessions to the debtors but Elaqai Dehati Bank is hell-bent to add to their hardships.

“We are not defaulters but there was a delay in repaying the load as we all know the situation that emerged after the Covid-19 pandemic,” the loan takers said and appealed authorities to come to their rescue. (KNT)
