Army Northern Commander flew over Batra Top to pay tribute to Captain Vikram Batra

KARGIL: Army paid rich tribute to Captain Vikram Batra who was killed during Kargil War while leading from the front.

To commemorate his sacrifice, Lieutenant General Y.K Joshi, Army Commander Northern Command and the then Commanding Officer flew over Batra Top in Sukhoi 30 MKI & paid rich tributes to Vikram Batra.

Captain Vikram Batra, who was an officer of the Indian Army was awarded with the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest and most prestigious award for valour, for his actions during the 1999 Kargil War posthumously.

He led one of the toughest operations in mountain warfare in Indian history. One of the Army officers said that he was often referred to as ‘’Sher Shah’’ (“Lion King”) in the intercepted messages of the Pakistan Army.

Batra was the native of Palampur Himachal Pradesh. He died in the prime of his youth. (KNT)
