3-year tenure of VC Kashmir University ends next month, still no search committee formed, no word from Raj Bhavan
The VC of Jammu University Manoj Kumar Dhar whose tenure is coming to end this month has already intimated Raj Bhavan about the expiry of his term. He had been informed that the term of a VC is only for three years.
SRINAGAR: The tenure of Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Talat Ahmed is coming to an end in August next month, however, neither any search committee has been formed nor there is any word from LG office about the appointment of new Vice Chancellor.
Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Talat Ahmed assumed the charge in August 2018. The tenure of Vice Chancellor used to be five years, however, in April 2020, the Centre came up with the new gazette notification for the Acts that have been amended after the abrogation of article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the new amendments in the University Act of Jammu and Kashmir, the tenure of Vice Chancellor of Universities is three years now read the notification. The three year term of Professor Talat Ahmad, University of Kashmir will end 25 August this year, as per this notification, as he has took over VC of Kashmir University on 2018 , but there is still confusion in Kashmir University regarding his tenure as whether it is 3 years or 5 years term said senior professor as he has not made any representation to Raj Bhawan whether his term was for three or five years.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that Prof Talat Ahmed has not sent any communique to Raj Bhavan in this regard and there is ambiguity whether he has to abdicate the office in August 2021 or continue as VC for five years.
A senior Professor said that Raj Bhavan has issued an order regarding tenure of Jammu University is 3 years instead of 5 years but no word has come from the top house about the tenure of VC Kashmir University. (KNT)
