Killing of three militant commanders a big success for Joint Forces: Police Chief Don’t give shelter to militants: IGP

SRINAGAR:  Terming the killing of Lashkar-e-Taiba Commander Mudasir Pandit as a ‘big success’,  Police Monday asked people not to support militants and not to provide them shelter in their homes.

While addressing a press conference here in Kashmir capital Srinagar, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said that all the three militants killed today in North Kashmir’s Sopore encounter were top commanders who were involved in numerous militancy related incidents.

Pertinently, three militants namely, Mudasir Pandit, Khurshid Mir and Asrar alias Abdullah were killed in an overnight encounter at Brath village of Sopore.

“The LeT Commander Mudasir who was known by various names including Omar, Maaz, Mudasir was a dreaded militant who had joined LeT in June 2019. At least 18 FIRs had been lodged against him. He was involved in the killing of various civilians and cops. He had gunned down 3 Sarpanhs, 2 ex-militants and 2 Hurriyat activists,” Singh as per news agency Kashmir News Trust said.

He said the two other slain militants Khurshid Mir and Abdullah were close associates of Mudasir and the trio were carrying out attacks jointly. “Six FIRs were registered against Khurshid Mir also and he was also involved in multiple attacks and killings,” Singh said.

Director General of Police said that trio was also involved in 12 June attack in Sopore that left two cops and two civilians dead. “They also killed 2 Municipal Councilors and a cop in May this year,” he said.

In response to a question, Singh said that it would be utterly wrong to say that foreign militants are not present in Kashmir. “Yes, cease fire agreement has started showing positive signs, but there are still foreign militants present in Valley. Weapon smuggling incidents have been reported from Kupwara and parts of border areas in Jammu,” he said.

General Officer Commanding, Kilo Force HS Sahai who besides IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar was accompanying DGP said that there is a need to end the cycle of violence. He appealed people to stop supporting militants. “I appeal local militants to shun the path of gun culture otherwise they will be killed like those three militants who were killed in Sopore today,” he said.

He congratulated Joint Forces for the successful operation. “It was a neat and clean operation. There was no collateral damage. Our one soldier who sustained bullet injury in his shoulder is stable,” he said.

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar asked people not to give shelter to the militants. He also appealed youth to stay away from Drugs. Kumar said that Baramulla police recently busted a big narco-militant module. “Sopore has become hub of drugs and I appeal youth to stay safe and stay away from drugs,” he said. (KNT)
