Fallen trees snap electric wires, lead to power outages in parts of Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Day after strong winds in parts of Kashmir, several areas have been reeling under long power cuts. Trees were uprooted in several areas, damaging electric wires resulting in outages.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that parts of Kashmir Valley witnessed power outage after the strong winds that not only damage roof tops, vehicles but also electric poles. Scores of trees were uprooted damaging vehicles on Friday evening.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that scores of villages in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, Budgam and Baramulla faced power outage.

An official from Power Development Department said that electric lines fell in many parts of Valley due to strong winds. He said in some areas power supply has been restored while in other areas, men are on job to repair the damaged electric wires.

A local from Pulwama district said that strong winds not only snapped power cables but also damaged fruit trees in orchards. “A lot of damage has been done in Pulwama orchards,” he said. (KNT)
